OUR E-PETITION - LESS THAN ONE WEEK TO GO!

Our e-Petition calling for a Sevenoaks Grammar School can be found at:-

http://democracy.kent.gov.uk/mgepetitionlistdisplay.aspx?bcr=1

The e-Petition states the following:-

“We, the undersigned, petition the council to establish a grammar school in Sevenoaks.

Sevenoaks does not have a grammar school at present. Instead, every day, 1150 Sevenoaks children travel to grammar schools in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, a round trip of up to 25 miles. Many of these children spend up to two hours commuting each day from a young age. This has a negative effect on their learning, on their opportunities for hobbies and sport, on their opportunities to develop friendships, and on the time they spend with their families.

In November, the law was changed to enable grammar schools to expand and to establish new sites in nearby towns. We, the undersigned, therefore urge the Council to take advantage of the new law by establishing a grammar school in Sevenoaks, to provide a local grammar education for local boys and girls.”

To date, over 2,500 people have signed our petition, including our MP Michael Fallon and 10 Sevenoaks District councillors.

Who We Are

The Sevenoaks Grammar School Campaign was established in December 2011 by a group of like-minded Sevenoaks area parents who hoped to establish a grammar school in Sevenoaks.

The campaign's first act was to establish an e-petition on KCC's website calling for a grammar school. The campaign took off very quickly, and we now represent nearly 2,500 Sevenoaks area parents who are keen to establish a grammar school in the town.

The campaign is being run by a core team of Sevenoaks area parents who meet regularly to share ideas, to share knowledge and to discuss feedback from other parents, with the aim of determining what kind of grammar school parents want, and how best this can be achieved.

We are a non-political, grassroots group that is unaffiliated to other organisations. We are also an unfunded group, and all of our members give their time and knowledge for free. Most importantly, we are a very determined, knowledgeable and resourceful group of parents with a clear and unified aim.
